Hi everyone. After more than a year of phone calls and emails Olmsted County has finally created a sensible ordinance to allow up to 10 chickens. I guess there must have been quite a few people taking an interest in this battle for common sense (chickens have been allowed in nearby Rochester City for some time but not in residential county areas - eg. the countryside). My boys and I are pretty excited about planning a portable coop/tractor for 3 or 4 chicks. I'm thinking I will make something small enough for me to move around as we live on a pretty exposed property that accumulates some big snow drifts over the winter - I'm thinking of wheeling the coop into a detatched garage that I have room in during nasty weather. Is this a wise move? does anyone else do it?
Anyways, thank you to all of you who commented positively to my posts urging me to stick at it.
Cheers!

I tend to follow things happening in Olmsted County, MN simply because my last name is Olmstead.

YAY! And I think your tractor idea is fine. Considering your winters are far more horrible than mine, wintering the tractor and chickens in the garage sounds perfect (to me).

Have you decided which breed(s) of chickens you want to get?? Cochins, Light or Dark Brahmas, and Buff Orpingtons are good, cold-hardy breeds.
