I love the way that chickens squabble over one bit of something tasty. They run off with a big bit in their beak but the dilemma is always the same - too big to eat + have to put it down to make it smaller = mustn't put it down where someone else can see to come and steal it from me! Run around frantically to find a private spot which alerts the others to the fact that you've got something tasty that they want!
I'm so sure they are saying ' I got it! I got it! You haven't got any! Yeh but when you put it down I'm gonna get it off you! See, I got it off you now! I got it now, I got it now - I got it back he he, I got it back he he
and I ATE IT ALL UP!'

Can't wait 'till they're old enough to try them with their very first bit of baby tomato!

They are so cute. I loved the part where the mom ate the baby's piece of lettuce while the baby was running around trying to find it.

.....and I thought that he just had a dirty bum because he was a boy!

I showed it to the hen earlier today and she had a go at it but didn't seem to be able to get the poop off.
I checked the forums for cleaning advice and have now cleaned him up with cotton wool, warm water & a bit of our best olive oil, suffice to say - he was a bit indignant about the whole proceedure

- but the butt is nice and clean now, although his tail feathers are a little greasy and he's giving them a good preening!
(He did look funny though, especially as his skin is dark, and what with his downy white/yellowy feathers all wet, his dark bum sorta stuck out! Like he'd taken his little furry pants off!!

)
At least he is all safe, warm and dry under mum's wing.
I will check him daily. If it comes back I'll look into changing the feed etc.
