Vigilant

Get more in spring. Two is not a good number, in case somethin bad happens to one of them. More is always better!
Plan on every imaginable predator, from rats and weasels to 100 lb. dogs, and have a safe coop and run for them.
At least you won't have bears, right?!

That's right, Mary. Bears are one thing I don't have to worry about, thank goodness. I'll tell hubby the chicken experts recommend I get more chickens

Don't forget that both foxes and bobcats are expert fence climbers. A two strand hot wire around your exterior boundary fence, one at the top and another at two feet, baited with a species specific attractant, will get the word out that coveting your chickens involves pain.
Oooh, I love this idea. I can hardly wait to implement this when we get a larger farm. Thanks for the advice.

Lol, we cannot forget the 2-legged predators. My gates are locked. All coop & run openings have small padlocks. Wyze camera notification of
movement if I'm gone or sleeping. Maybe I can hire armed guards? No one warned me I would fall in love with 2 chickens and be almost obsessed with their safety.
I have yet to get my cameras up and running. It's the winged ones that are my biggest worry, but I have tumbler locks to stop those 2-legged varmints! I live in a semi-rural area on the outskirts of a biggish city in Cali. The homeless conundrum is a real thing out here... I've had things go missing from my backyard - but no chickens, thankfully.
