Last fall I planted honeysuckle, butterfly bushes, and a clematis vine around the outside of the chicken pen thinking the honeysuckle and clematis would provide shade when they start growing over the top. Someone just told me that theyre poisonous? :/ Really?? I've been reading a lot of things that people say are poisonous, but they fail to say that it's the pit or the bulb...or whatever, that's poisonous, not actually what you'd feed them. Does anybody know if the leaves from honeysuckle or clematis is actually poisonous or not? I was wanting to plant wisteria also...

Sure hope honeysuckle isn't poisonous to my girls, placed our pen right next to neighbors honeysuckle. The girls keep the leaves trimmed back very well. Girls have been there for a full spring and summer into fall and winter, no issues to date!

Not sure about the honeysuckle either. Every fall and winter mine are full of birds eating the little red berries off them with no ill effects, and my hummingbirds are all over them sipping nectar in the spring and summer. Now, that doesn't mean that I'm saying you should go ahead and plant them - I would hate to give that kind of advice because if it turns out I'm wrong about how chickens would react to them I'd feel just awful. I'm just saying that mine are full of birds all season with no problems.
