does anyone have any suggestion as to what type of vines you are growing over your chicken run for shade.
i'm looking for a vine that will grow rather fast and endure the new england winters. the location of the runn is in full sun for most part of the day.
pictures of your runs with the vines would be awesome!!

i was given a couple of wisteria vines lastyear but i have them in large pots.
i know that they are aggressive growers but they do take several years before you even see a flower.
when they were given to me the wisteria vines were maybe 12" long. now they are atleast 6'-7' long.

I'm going to try gourds and hope the chickens don't eat them

You could always add a butterfly garden...pipevine swallow tails are gorgeous, and pipevines are agressive growers...as well as passion vines for gulf fritilaries...I do not know the butterfly species prevalent in your area, but it would be worth looking into...Im all about dual purpose planting!

i had some wild morning glory seeds come up randomly. beautiful flowers in the morning and they covered a corner of my coop. with enough of them, you could definitely get some shade off of them.

My husband planted bottle gourds around our run. 2 plants. It covered a 12x4 run and we had to keep cutting it back.

we have wild muscadine grapes, so they grow in the trees above the run. i have a feeling they will make their way don to the wiring. those boogers are fast growers.

We have a combination of Virginia Creeper and Grape. The chickens will eat the grapes and leaves but won't touch the Creeper. The grape vines also attract wasps which the chickens also eat, or try to.
