Vines on a Chicken Run or Coop--suggestions, please

Those look like what we call Junebugs. My chickens definitely like eating them. I'll go out with a mason jar with a little bit of cooking oil in the bottom and catch Japanese beetles and junebugs to feed to the chickens. The oil makes it hard for them to get their wings open and fly away while they scramble in the pan in front of dozens of pointy chicken beaks.

A couple of years ago I had a luffa vine that scrambled all over the chicken coop. The chickens left the leaves alone (they smell really bad when crushed- perhaps they taste just as bad) and it made for some good shade. The chickens did like eating the fruits that weren't fully grown before the frost hit.

OCE1, with those bugs and a bit of oil, you could have one very crunchy, high protein stir fry going! I like to leave a tub of water under the back light. By morning, it has all kinds of little protein treats in it for the girls to go dunking for.

I love your coop and run setup.I will have to admit I have a nice coop and a huge run.I just love the design of yours.
