For those that use vinyl on the floor of their coop - does it stick to the wood? Would it be better to paint the floor first? I got a gallon of outdoor gloss paint and that should be more than enough for the walls, so I should have enough to do the floor too.

I have one "mini-coop" that I use to nurse hurt hens (or give trouble-makers a time out). The floor of that coop is vinyl. I painted the floor first, and just laid the vinyl down loose. Makes cleaning a breeze, and I don't have to worry about moisture getting trapped between vinyl and wooden floor. But, if this were in a really big coop I would probably just go ahead and clue the vinyl down (and in that case you DON'T want to paint the floor).

If you are going to glue it you will need to seal the plywood first. It's easy they sell a latex floor sealer you flat trowel to the plywood with a thin coat. Let it dry then glue your floor down. It keeps the plywood from sucking up the glue and keeps moisture from wicking in from underneath.

I'd suggest painting under it. Moisture WILL get trapped under there no matter how well you think you are sealing it, and paint will at least provide *some* protection to the wood.

Good luck, have fun,

Pat

I have the same question.

We painted underneath and just stapled it down with a staple gun.
