This is for anyone who is wondering, since it took me 45 minutes on the web, phone with city attorney's office, then code enforcement office to answer this question! Chickens are against code in Virginia Beach unless you are specifically zoned Agricultural, and they will not consider them companion animals! I am very disappointed....I have a one acre semi-rural city lot with plenty of gardens and room for a few chickens....ugh!!! Anyone out there tackled a chicken ordinance and won? Gotta love how sustainability/organic pest control, etc is catching on well with the "average American"....it's the government who can't seem to keep up!! (p.s. My Australian Shepherd is pretty disappointed too....she was looking forward to herding chickens!) Good luck to everyone trying to change the perception of the Backyard Chicken!
