Virginia

ooh i think maybe i finally found the Virginia thread LOL I am in Stafford. Is there anyone near here who sells heritage breeds? I am looking for pretty eggs from hardy birds. I dont have any birds right now since we are military and had to move from washington state. it sucks having to start alllll over again :( I dont have an incubator either but ive heard of some people building their own, anyone know about those? I am in Stafford. Also if I bought them online and had them shipped how safe is that for the birds? thank you :D

can build it from lots of things and components online - try incubator warehouse.com for components.
Lots of folks have heritage . also post on Heritage thread https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/400344/heritage-large-fowl-thread/18900
But need to know what breed you looking for ?

I know this will sound a bit vague but I am looking for easter eggers, laced birds like the wyandottes. It may sound silly but I want to be able to have the kids go oooh and ahhh at pretty eggs and enjoy some of the fancier looking birds :) I will get some regulars from the feed store like RIR and such. sooo i'm not super picky on what the birds are breed wise I just dont want to pay an arm and a leg for em. some of them are sooo expensive! I'm not a breeder and just looking for some egg layers and meaty birds if we decide that we want to do em for meat too. so a dual purpose hardy bird since i hear the weather can swing high and low here.

misty mountain...do you have sheep? I got a couple of finn fleeces from the fleece sale at montpelier this past fall from a farm called misty mountain...

Oooo ya'll, I'm so excited...I FINALLY finished the goat shed out in the goat run! I've been waiting on the roof...had to recuperate from Christmas...so hubby and my stepdad went to Lowe's today and bought my roofing materials...AND they helped me DO the roof!!!

Had to also make a door (to keep 'em safe at night) so I just used an old piece of plywood I had laying around. Now my doelings are in their new enclosure, and I can turn the old goat shed into my second coop, and we all know what that means....MORE CHICKENS!!! Woot woot!!!

Butterscotch and Caramel like it, I think

I do not have sheep, But hmmm... Maybe I need some to add to my funny farm! Misty mountain is just a random thought as I was walking up the driveway on what seemed like the tenth foggy day in a row!
I do plan on getting a couple of milking goats in a couple years though!!

my chickens turned the goat house into thier coop on thier own...they started sleeping in the rafters. and because the goats are short and didn't need all that headroom, we built a shelf and let them have the upper part. the goats dont seem to mind.

so now we have 10 chickens in the original coop, 10 in the new coop and 14 in the goat house. (they like that one best...the one not even designed for them)

Maggiesdad- actually just came back from the coop! It's been dark for almost 3 or 4 hours and used the dog as an excuse:) I just wanted to see who slept where to match up with who's leaving those piles so neatly piled for me to sift in the mornings! ....Never thought I'd be saying that.....
