Yes, if a cat goes for wild birds they'll eat your chicks. We got two cats to control mice a few months ago. They steal the dog's food and all we really get out of them is a male spraying our porch (they were supposed to be females) and fleas in the firewood! I swear one cat sat there grinning at me when a mouse ran right out from beside where the cat was sitting. The cats are now free for someone that wants lap cats and I guess I'll keep a rake handy again for the snakes:)

I think it depends on the cat... all 3 of my cats are good mousers and birders, but they (literally) let the chickens walk all over them. LOL the girls especially. if they're on their bed they aren't moving for anything and the chickens will climb over them to get out from under the deck if the dog runs up to the door.

a good broodie will defend her chicks pretty well too.

And today... We have a good egg!!! Next to a large store egg for comparison. I think one of 4 brown leghorns had something to do with this! My son and 8I fried it up and had a fork/sword fight over who got the last bite!!

Bad pic, but I think it was even fertile

Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone has any splash cochin eggs?

I have some assorted bantam cochin eggs available if you're interested... buff and blue mottled roos over silver laced, blue mottled, blue split to mottled and red girls. i'm only getting 2-3 eggs a day right now but I think they're from the mottled girls. I've just been eating them. I haven't incubated any, but see the bullseye when I cook them.

i'm waiting on my silver laced and red boys to get here before I pair them up.

oh. sorry then. don't know anyone in the area with LF cochins... but if you're a member of Cochins International, they just put out the membership directory and some breeder ads on the website.

It doesn't necessarily need to be a cochin. I just love the feathered feet. I have faverolles. I have a splash marans and want a splash rooster to mate with her. @ki4got

the closest I'd be able to provide would be easter eggers... my roo is crested and has feathered legs, but doesn't pass them along 100% of the time.

this is Weeble. with my EE girls, I can guarantee either blue or splash, since Weeb is a splash and the girls are mostly blues... I've got 2 eggs in the incubator but I have no idea if they're his or not since the girls are free ranging right now.

if something like that interests you let me know.
