Is the chicken breeding 'hobby' growing, cause if it is I will seriously consider getting into it, cause the rabbit breeding 'hobby' is REALLY growing and i'm into that.
it's kind of hard to say it's growing or not. it's always been a popular hobby and has been bigger in the past than it is right now, but I think it is growing some.

backyard chicken keeping is growing in some localities that are allowing chickens in town.

My brother lives in Virginia Beach & I want to move near him.
I know Virginia Beach doesn't allow chickens so what towns near him (1/2hr travel time ) allow backyard coops?

if you want to know what the local ordinances are for specific localities, there are websites available that have the complete ordinances available to read, and you can search them for specific words like 'chicken' or 'poultry'

byc also has some localities already cataloged (you can find the link in the appropriate forum)

Hi Karen
We breed heritage Delawares from a line created by a lady in Mo..
Delawares are a dual purpose egg/meat bird with good temperament and a great forager.
More info on this recreated line on this thread;
https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/777172/delawares-from-kathyinmo

The other laying hens I have for sale are 5 Delaware hens [1 yr] from another breeder line , 3 NH from a production line and two EEs [about 2]. All these hens are laying

The new chicks are all sired by the Cocks from the MO line referred above.
9 are Generation five from the New Delaware line
7 are a mixture of Delaware Cock over the other hens [NH and EE ] - the EE cross will lay colored eggs like the hen - the NH cross will look like a Delaware and lay brown eggs.

Cocks at 30 weeks

Pullets at 30 week
Processed cockerals 37 weeks
your birds are lovely!!!

I mean, I don't think I'll ever live in VA beach anytime soon, but I think it should be legal...

So frustrated. this morning was a shambles...ducklings decided they wanted to be with the baby chicks last night and they are like a biker gang with the water and food. Poor baby chicks were soaking wet and covered in matted food. I had to bring them inside and wash them and dry them (they were shivering) and clean out their tub. and one chick had gotten out and was on the floor away from the heat lamp. It was still pliable so I was in denial and tried to massage it awake but alas, he/she is now in chick heaven. sigh.

The chicks are now in the house far away from the ducklings, staying warm.

I guess with how cold it got last night, it could have been alot worse. I just wish I had thought to cover the tubs (head->desk)
