As of NOW, I am nolonger looking to rehome anymore English Orpingtons of any size nor Phoenix Bantams. Those of you whom have taken in any of my English Orpingtons and Phoenix Bantams over the past several months, Thank you.

I have never met a sales person from TSC that was not polite. They are always polite, & eager to help in any way they can.

Actually, I've not been pleased with the customer service around here - TSC of Prince George (and the local feed store, for that matter). Many times I'll have my family haul down feed from their Southern States.

That said, I am interested in chick days, but istn't Mt. Healthy the hatchery that keeps having problems?

My only problem with TSC is that they dont all own their own property and to have to deal with mini mall jealousies and that is really not TSC's doings or fault.
All TSC can not hold the Flock Swaps due to cry baby property owners calling us nothing more than a Flea market and pet stores afraid someone will get a free puppy instead of pay them 500. for a pup. I choose not to give those places my money. If they want my money they have to allow me to make money. And no, I did not throw a hissy fit and boycott. I have more class than to throw a hissy fit. I simply boycotted.
If you find your local shop less than professional. Let them know. Maybe they need ro retrain their sales staff. Maybe a bad apple dropped into the bunch and is gumming up their works. They need to know. I owned businesses out west before returning to my home state to retire. Believe me they need to know, they want your business. If a business discovers what they are doing is not serving customers BUT loosing customers,.. Well simply put they want your business. Please let them know so they can weed out those bad apples.

Yes your correct they had a RIR type, very small and light red. Not orpington but more like small Wyandotttes. I hear from a man in my church that said had Gold Lace Wyandottes! He said at the 8th month and no eggs he gave them away to find he only had roosters on a straight run. And he had gotten Dixie Rainbow
pullets. and they all turned out to be roos. I think he said he wasnt doing that again. HE Is a very elderly gentleman and sometimes his thinking is not very clear.
Aww that is sad. I hope they did not take advantage of him.

Thanks for this perspective. I edited my post -- I thought I should give the local store another chance before calling them out. I am just so used to crappy attitudes that my husband don't complain anymore, we quietly take our money elsewhere. Happily, I was helped today with friendlier attitudes than what I had experienced on my first two visits. Even bought something extra. If this continues, I will be glad to split my pennies between the local store and Southern States. I am still somewhat reluctant to spend money at TSC despite it's convenient location.

Careful with a straight run if the same supplier is also selling bins of pullets only.
Not TSC fault.
It would rest on the shoulders of suppliers. Infact we were not allowed to reach in or pick out the leghorns that were straight run.
Just got lucky on the three female stooges. This year I will be selling straight runs only. Not picking through them. I kept back too many last year and ended up GIVING away the best of the best. Not doing it this year. In some runs I will be selling the parents also.

My husband has put the brakes on my Chocolate Orpington midsize Project till we have built on the additions to our house and we have not even been down to the Architect yet.
He has asked me to stop building more houses when I had promised to down size. Ok!

Oh wow. You were right there and could not choose. You had excellent luck. I was thinking about going to see what Southern States actually had this year until I found out that they came from the same place that TSC was getting thier chicks from. I thought they may have even worked with local breeders or a place with happier customers. I have heard too many stories about chicks being missexed, random death, or the chicken not growing or behaving like its breed should. I have taken a chance with hatcheries this year, but I did get to hear and read some reviews before placing an order. I only did it because we would have to go out of our way a few times in the spring to get chicks from breeders around DC, PA,and VA. I am hoping that I do not regret it.
I have met one family that has MT Health chickens and were very happy with their chicks. They lost 2 unexpectedly, but enjoy their birds. Other than them I did not find anyone that would use them (again).
Sorry that you have to give up on the project. I have to pump my brakes often, then I have to pump my husbands. Lol

I never had a PROBLEM with the chicks from TSC (aka Mt Healthy), just that they don't carry the BREEDS I want now. my starter birds when I first got back into chickens after years away from the coop were from TSC and were perfectly healthy. I just ended up selling them all off (or eating a few of the unruly boys) once I settled on the breeds I wanted most.

Hey VARaptor

I added this and I dont know why my reply is within the quoted.

I am glad my perspectivr gave you cause to give TSC another chance. If ever you have a problem with a store, tell them, they want your business. I personally frequent TSC. Like I said the only problem I have is they do not all own their own property store front but rent. Wished, in a perfect world they all owned their own building.
