Guess we'll be out in our pens around 2am. Uugh! At least they'll be easy to catch at that hour. Lol

I caged mine up at sundown the night before - they sleep all night anyway! I just wanted to be able to hop in the truck and roll.

Quote: yup. that's what I did... boxed everyone up and in the truck the night before... this time around, since the truck was totalled (hubby did it!) i'll be pulling a trailer on the car. yeah might have to pay for 2 spots, but they'll be packed in nicely all ready to go at the crack of o'dark thirty.

You know, I swear I think the double spot would be worth the money just for the extra room!
well, we ended up with one last year just because they couldn't squeeze anyone else in there without blocking us in...

i'm hoping to have time to build some better cages too... what i had with me last fall was insufficient to say the least LOL. especially when i ended up buying more than i'd sold yet, and had no places to put them yet.

At Gilmanor, are the birds of good quality? Or is it mainly backyard stock?
depends on what breeders bring what...

my red dorking cockerels i picked up were excellent type. i've still got one i plan to use once my pens are done. saw (and sold) some 'meh' quality blue laced red wyandottes, picked up 2 excellent birds. it's going to vary.

i'd dare say most breeders won't sell their best stock, but may produce very nice offspring from them. I'll hopefully have an assortment of good/average birds, as well as a few mutts here and there, depending on what eggs hatch.

Does anyone know the best way to travel chickens with the least amount of Stress? I realy want to go to Gilmanor in May but I'm about 2 hours away. I had a bad experiance with my last purchas at a chicken swap in WV and had to kull 3 birds and one died on the way home. The three got sick the next day and I was so glad I had them in quarenteen so the rest of my flock did not get sick. Any suggestions on how to have the best swap experiance? Oh, and another question, If I buy 2 chickens from one farm and 4 from another I have to keep them seperate on the car ride home right? I guess I'm asking how extreem do I go with the quarenteen? Or I guess I only buy from one farm at a time? Any input is apreciated. I just want to be prepared, I can't stand the idea of an animal dieing because of my ignorance.
