Virginia

no chickeny stuff today but I did go to the Montpelier fiber festival.

I almost bought a bunny. left to my druthers I would have but the husband would have had a cow. they had 4 week old blue angora bunnies. I was in love.
I DID buy 3 small Finn fleeces that I am very excited about. They are gorgeous. I wonder if they are lamb fleeces. seriously soft but with gorgeous shine and wonderful staple length, which I find necessary to process the way I like. (flicking both ends and spinning from the lock) I have a dark one, a medium and a white. WOOT!!!!!
I spun a bit of the dark one in the grease and it is lovely
got kettle corn and fresh squeezed lemonade and apple cider donuts and apple-cheddar-bacon crepes for lunch.
only bad thing is I wished I’d had a parasol. it was HOT and the sun baked my brain. got an ocular migraine that turned into a real migraine(from the sun, I think) so now i am laying in the nice cool AC in the dark. but I had to tell you guys of my day.

well it's off season for eggs, like turkeys and guineas most are not laying this time of year... there was a guy down near Floyd co that advertised on craigslist last year who might have some more, or check the swaps... white pickup truck, "dan4x4" has some pheasants now and then. not sure what breeds. Christiansburg swap is this weekend, Roanoke in 3 weeks and rocky mount in 4 weeks.
yeah i know its off season but i figured i could try for a contact for spring... we will try the RM swap this month if i still have $$$ its going fast this month for some reason.....so what day is rm swap for oct?? the 26th?? just like to triple check lol.

LOL...yeah, I wouldn't actually mind a tiny cow for that reason myself. but I'm afraid it would have been a really huge jabba-the-hut sized cow.

Hello Virginia! Botetourt County here, just outside of Roanoke. Got a couple chicken questions for y'all! I have 17 (yes, chicken math hit me before I even knew what it was) 8 week old's in my laundry room right now. They go outside during the day and back in the box at dusk. We will have our temporary coop (metal shed) completed on Wednesday. I could write a novel here on why we didn't have the new coop ready before we got the chickens, but I would rather not bore you. Basically waiting for November when family will be bringing our load of lumber up. Anyhow, they need to get out of here. This metal shed is going to be their home until the beginning of December, at which point we will repurpose it for storage. Back to my question.... We are looking at the high 40's and lower 50's for overnight temps this week. Doors closed, heavy layer of bedding on the floor, roosting options as well, will they be OK at night going out there permanently now? Their light has been off for a couple of weeks now. Thanks!!

At 8 weeks they should be fully feathered. And they should be fine, in my opinion. There are 17 of them, they should be able to snuggle for warmth as well.
