Hi all! I'm a new member here, from Northern Virginia. We ordered 10 chicks from Ideal (all pullets, various types), and I have to say, I was nervous about how they would survive the trip from Texas. They got here in one day, believe it or not, and all are healthy and active, so far! Keeping my fingers crossed! They are really chowing down on the starter feed.

alas...pipe dream to own one as we have no grass for them to eat... we live in the woods.

hmmm....so at 1.5 gallons of milk a day they would pay for themselves in 1-3 years IF you can use 1.5 gallons of milk a day.

I am willing to attempt it...

think of all the cheese you could make! and I could live on milk, honestly. Husband is lactose intolerant, but I've heard that raw milk is better for lactose intolerant people because it has the enzymes in it that you need to digest it...I'll have to go look that up.

Still have to get over the lack-of-grass thing, though...

It is true that most people who are lactose intolerant can drink raw milk. My son can't drink regular milk, but he's good on raw! Thankfully I'm in a place wherei can get it, because I don't have room for my own cow!
