Virginia

When I let my egg layers loose when we have the vegetables gardens in, it results in loss of vegetables. They eat as many as they can and ruin many more by pecking them.
LOL- I should have clarified my statement. They were released into the garden after the season.. That is they had access from late Fall through the Winter until my asparagus started coming up in the spring and tilling time. I am NOT sharing asparagus with chickens!!!!

Hey everyone. Floyd County here!!

It's a small population county, has anyone ever heard of it?

ROTFL yes, there are a number of people I know in Floyd. most of them don't have chickens but a few do. LOL

if you're even remotely interested in ham radio, the Floyd amateur radio society meets the 2nd Saturday each month at suite 4 at the village green (was ste 9 but we moved to a bigger space, where the chocolate shop was).

I'm in Roanoke co, but closer to Blacksburg than Roanoke... +

welcome to the Virginia thread!

Curious of people thoughts. I am in the City of Richmond and we are only allowed to have 4 hens max. I wanted to start with chicks. What are my options since there is the state law requiring you to purchase six chicks. Can you purchase 6 and only take 4? Do i have any options here or will I just have to buy older hens?

Thanks in advance

I would recommend taking 6... there's always the possibility of one not surviving long enough to lay... you're limited to 4 in your back yard. there's no rule that says how many you can or can't have in your house, which is where the chicks would be for the first month at least... and then you can find a home for the extras if necessary.

and not all 'guaranteed pullets' will lay eggs, some do turn out to be roosters now and then. LOL
