Yep - Eat poop , chase rabbits and bark at the moon - the ultimate canine life LOL

fortunately my dog only likes raw meat and bone. LOL and occasionally chicken and cat pellets. but not the poops.

his goal in life is to eradicate all 'squeaks' from the world. (that includes rabbits, chipmunks, possum and any other varmint that hangs around the chicken coops).

My little (explitive deleted) is still not to be trusted. but he has started hunting below the ground varmints...so I have some hope. He has killed about 6 chickens so far. but he isn't a year old yet, soo....

Hey Everybody! My name is Nicole. I live in Martinsville, VA. I also live in a subdivision that does not allow chickens, however I am at the dead end at the very very back and have gotten the go ahead from my only 2 neighbors. (we will see how that goes) If i get in trouble my MIL will let me move the coop 3 miles away to her house. I am now the proud owner of 6 chickens (3 1 wk old and 3 3wk old) that have completely taken over my sons bathroom. He is completely taken with them. :) I am currently stressing over what kind/size coop to get. Gotta go get some work done but i wanted to introduce myself. :)

Hi, I'm fairly close to Martinsville. I'm in Floyd, so we're about a county apart. (Patrick or Franklin county)

Lilly only killed one chicken, and even then it was my own error. She had not been introduced to chickens before and we just moved out here. I had one silkie that I had just let out for the first time that day. Lilly was chained in the yard as we did not have her wireless collar yet. She slipped out of her collar and caught the squawky floppy play thing. Everything lined up perfect for that--- normally the silkie would not have been let out. Lilly has a history of catching and killing squirrels so we were worried her prey drive would be too strong. When my flock turned 6 weeks we started introducing her to them inside, allowing her to be curious but not letting her excitement escalade. My husband got super involved, which was perfect because while I do everything for her, she thinks he hung the moon. When the chicks got to about 8 weeks we started penning her up with them and correcting her with our voice when she would take too much interest. In the last two weeks, the flock has spent a lot of time within Lilly's "circle of death" around the house. She is happy to see them, but has no interest in getting too close to them. Funny thing is, my mean rooster has never even approached her. I can barely make it to the coop some days without having to remind him where he stands on my pecking order!!

Hang in there! Lilly still hunts mice and rats too! Maybe it will come with time!

We got 6 more chicks today from the pullet bin at TSC. I think they may be Easter Eggers.

We have a nice assortment now to be able to choose who we want to keep for our flock. :)

Here's an overhead photo of the newbies here. (chipmunk looking ones and the one at the top right) Thoughts? (will be posting a thread soon. Just curious now, hehe)
