We're in Smithfield, VA on the northern end closer to Surry (across the James River from Jamestown and Williamsburg). We are just getting prepared to start our new backyard hobby. We are setting up our brooder in anticipation of getting chicks soon. We are traveling to a farm this weekend in Central VA. We'll see what we come home with, if anything. We want chicks that will be good egg layers with good temperaments, so we are thinking of starting with buff orpingtons and rhode island reds. Maybe some bantams for fun, we'll see.
