We went and it was ok. Saw some Blue Ameraucana's we would liked to bid on but some young kids were bidding the price up and just playing games. A lot of birds didn't look so great health wise but really enjoyed the show birds. A bit smaller than I thought it would have been to be honest with you.

Yeah, I felt the same way. I was really looking for a much larger selection of birds...they did not (in my opinion) have many varieties....but maybe it was the first so it will get larger next year. It used to be more when they had it at the building across from Kings Domion also....oh well..there's always next year.

Ones on the cheap side, to be honest, around $2 an egg.
I'd love to find a few good Black Japs. One of my 3 hen survivors turned out Roo, 2 others are mixes. So only have Mr. Roo and his 2 girls.
Always looking for Silkies or silkied bantams. Standards are fine as long as they are not flighty and on the smaller side. Color, a rainbow of chickens, that would be great, lol.

Your birds are very pretty, if I had more $, I would love some. Maybe in spring I could get a few.

sorry, My hens are not laying at all right now....I was trying not to put a light on them this year, but I will have to. last year I didn't and had to buy eggs..you know how belittling that was? lol

Hey D'Angelo, my D'Uccles are doing great so far and turned out real pretty. My large fowl hens are laying up a storm, I'm getting almost a dozen a day now. I've got 4 delawares, 6 black copper marans and 8 barred rock hens laying now plus one of my young marans has decided to set for Christmas. I just bought a dozen delaware eggs from Bargain to set under her. Anyone know of any shows going on in Virginia in the near future. I've got a black copper marans rooster that I think could be a winner.

Hi to all my fellow EGG HEADS! I am in the Fred area of VA (22407) and would LOVE to get some help an advice. I am new to raising chickens. But, I love this hobby! Got any advice for a new starter? I have a coup, no house yet. I have 2 guineas and two Roo's. Picking up 6 hens on Saturday. Nice to meet you and thanks in advance for the help.

Hi and
welcome-byc.gif
! We live very close by! What breed(s) are you going to be keeping? As for advice, if you're building your coop and run, definitely check out the various designs that others have built or bought. We bought ours for about $800.00...worth it, considering the cost of materials and the time it would have taken us. Consider the predators or other critters you may want to keep out. If you are in Fred, I'm assuming you will be keeping them in a run and not free ranging? Check out our coop/run set-up. It might work well in a in-town setting. Part of the run is covered and part is "open" (with the wire on top). We have since added hardware cloth as a 2nd barrier inside, just in case. We'll also be expanding the run, shortly.
