i'm actually in Catawba, which is Roanoke county. Catawba is known for 2 things. a REALLY good restaurant called The Homeplace, and a nuthouse (aka Catawba Hospital) we have a post office and 2 gas stations (1 has been out of gas for weeks)...

I'm hoping to put it on the map for the best flock of dorkings in the region. shouldn't be hard, i think i have the only flock of dorkings in the region LOL

Hi samcountrygirl!

Do you plan on coming to the swap in Franklin on May 19th? And do you sell any of your quail? I'm thinking about starting in quail, not sure what I want to start with though!

Yes we will be there. we will Sell Quail and Guineas they are hatching as we speak. we started out with a doz quail. we will be under blue tent with black Ranger behind it. look forward to seeing you, Husband can answer any questions you have.

We'll see you there, most likely selling out of a tan mazda pickup or a black taho. Not sure if we'll have a shade or not... yet!

Oh and we'll have dutch bantams (CLB about 2 months old), OEGB/dutch mix about the same age and silkies 2 months and younger at that swap for anyone else who plans on going. Maybe a few other things, we'll see.

Manaze88 (showing my appaling ignorance here) how far is Leesburg from Ashland? There is a swap meet there on the 5th. I'm sure you could find some chicks there.

It's far enough to warrant paying $38 shipping :)

I managed to get through to the local Southern States, and I think I might be covered. If I can get in before they all get snatched up, they had a few of my birds. Still, once I get what I'm looking for, I intend to try to go to some of the local events so I can learn more, get better ideas, and keep my birds healthy and strong.

Soooo....thanks for all the information!

Love the 2 things Catawba is known for!! haha I still haven't taken my hubby to the Homeplace. Great place!

You guys need to check out the "Swinging Bridge" restaurant in Paint Bank. Route 311 in Catawba. The food is really good and if you have children they would enjoy the Buffalo farms close by.

LOVE IT!! That is one of our favorite places! My mom has a place out on Craigs creeks that we spend a lot of time at in the summer and the Swinging Bridge restaurant is one of our favorites! We love feeding the fish and playing corn hole! They have awesome fried green beans! YUM making my mouth water!! We took our nephew who lives in Atlanta and he was amazed at the buffalo. So cool! It is a great place for the kids with all the "stuffed" animals and it's hard getting away without having to look around the gift store upstairs.

Any one in the Roanoke/Salem area who hasn't been it is a great drive especially on a nice day! Then have a great meal, walk around, feed the fish and head home.
