Visiting Workman With Dogs

Just a word of advice: my friend who has chickens had a workman do work on his house last week. The worker had a truck dog who he let out of the truck without asking first. The dog tore around the property in fun, then found the free-ranging flock. He got hold of one Buff Orp, but thankfully, the worker called off the dog before the bird was killed. The Buff recovered, but was skittish for days.

So, if you have workman come and your chickens free-range, make sure they know that their truck dogs are not welcome outside.

In my area, there's a lot of workers in pickup trucks. It's pretty common to see a companion Labrador retriever in the passenger seat...

Well they should know better than to let their dogs lose in someone's yard. It's called respect for other people's property. My DH is a blue collar guy but our dog stays at home where he belongs. My dog rides with me to the PO to ship out orders sometimes but he stays in the truck.

Some people just blow my mind with their disrespect for other people's property.

I hope your friend gets some $ for his poor chicken's pain and suffering! At least a discount!

I have never heard of a worker bringing his/her dog with either. It sure wouldn't fly in this yard or neighborhood. They would either lock the dog up or out would come the gun.

Wow, it seems like every workman out here has a dog (or two) that they bring everywhere with them. When we were building our house, every guy that came out had a dog and they all ran around and, thankfully, got along well. Didn't mind then because I didn't have chickens and if the dogs got too out of line, my horses would start chasing them! Now, I don't know if I would let any workers bring their dogs.

I see alot of that in construction. Our Friend years ago took Eva our German shepard with him everywhere. One day he stops at the Kash & Karry to get a few things. He told her to stay put and he went in the store. About 5 minutes later a guy comes over the loud speaker and says. Will the person who owns the german shepard please take her out of the store! Eva was running up and down the isles looking for Roger. LOL After that he tied her to the truck to keep her from going shopping.
