I am giving my chickens vitamins and electrolytes in their water. Just started this morning. What I am wondering is...will it be safe to eat the eggs while they are drinking this water? The package says not safe for human consumption, but if the chickens drink the water and it transfers to the eggs, would they be safe to eat?

When I give my chickens vitamins and electrolytes, I have always eaten them or sold or given to family members. I don't care if we aren't supposed to eat the powder, i don't see how it would bother us. Also, when I put ACV in their water, i don't throw the eggs out either.

Thanks chickenlady! I was just wondering about it, because they are always saying don't eat the eggs if you do this or that. OK...thanks a bunch for your prompt reply.

I put horse maure in my raspberry patch one fall and had a bumper crop of raspberries the next year. Some people asked if the berries tasted like horse crap...of course not. The plants took the beneficial minerals from the manure and grew berries.

My point is to trust the chicken's systems to metabolize (process) the supplements. They are not going directly into the eggs.

Hey littlehenny, that is no problem. It is so nice to have a place that us chicken lovers can go if they have a question or need some advice. I have learned a whole lot from reading up on chickens and asking questions. I always go to my Mom and pop feed store and ask tons of questions, but we learn by asking and if we don't ask then we don't learn. Right.

We also put horse manure on our garden and this will be our first year that we will use our own chicken poop. We just empty the gator out into the garden after we clean the coops out and I can never say my veggies have tasted like poop either. We had tomatoes and zucchini and everything else in abundance. It is nice to use organic instead of nasty pesticides.
