i bought poultry cell liquid vitamins. Then I was reading it and it says rich in iron. I remember seeing recommendations for treating wry neck to avoid baby vitamins with iron. Is iron bad for them or only the iron supplement they use in human vitamins. I did put 1/2 oz in a gallon of water, I usually go easy on the vitamins but I thought with the heat wave it might help with stress. I also treated with corid last week because I had a hen passing blood clots (her only symptom and only on days I find an egg in the nest box) which I’m not convinced that is her problem but I can’t find it a symptom of any thing else.

Poultry Cell and NutriDrench are both very good to use on chickens. Yes, they contain iron. They are for short term use, so it is not harmful if used according to directions. Each ml only contains about 13 mg of iron.

Ok thank you so much. I don’t usually give vitamin supplements because their pellets have them but after the corid I read it was a good idea to give them a boost.

@Eggcessive do have any ideas on what may cause a hen to pass blood clots? I have searched and searched can’t find any answers. She doesn’t have any other symptoms eggs are clean and normal but I find blood clots stuck to her butt feathers on the same day I find egg. Corid didn’t help.

How old is your hen? It can be common for young pullets to have blood smears on an egg when they start laying. But blood clots are not normal. Are her eggs overly large? Can you see a vet? You may want to get some dropings checked for capillary worms and coccidiosis. Does she act lethargic and hunched or not eating, the way a chicken with coccidiosis may act? There can be some strains of coccidiosis resistant to Corid. Sulfa antibiotics from a vet may be more helpful. Cancer might also cause bleeding, and can be common in chickens.

She is 13 months old Silkie. She does not act sick at all. No active bleeding, vent looks good no wounds or discharge. Here poo looks normal. Eggs are clean no smears and normal size. None of the others have symptoms. Just these blood clots that I’ve never seen her pass just stuck to her feathers. When I wash her up there are no mites or lice or wounds. I don’t have access to a vet. I did have a fox attack memorial weekend and she seemed the most stressed with it, she wouldn’t come out of the coop for a week and then slowly start to venture out for short periods and stay right next to my rooster or me. It has also reduced my hens to just her and a hen that’s brooding chicks. But I have not seen my rooster overmating her. He drops wing for her but she ignores him and he walks away. So many variables and I don’t know
