This morning our most vocal hen was very lethargic as the other three pecked and ate. In fact, she was bedded down in the run and not responding to my movements. It wasn't until I walked right over to where she was resting that she moved, and then she only moved to the other side of the run and bedded down again. Her tail feathers are pointing down and she's not making any noise (she's usually our loudest hen).
When I looked in the laying boxes, I saw an egg (which I'm pretty sure was hers) that had been laid this morning with a soft shell. The other birds had eaten the contents, and the shell was covered in wood shavings. She just started laying this last week, and her previous three eggs were all smallish, but with reasonably formed with hard shells.
Does anyone have any thoughts about what may be happening?
Thanks,
Jack
