Vodka makes the meat tender?

So, I'm a total TV nerd, I know it. I have been turned on to the "Beekman Boys" by a friend and while watching last nights episode this morning after work I saw them giving a turkey vodka before processing it because 'it's supposed to make the muscles relax and the meat tender". Not that i would ever waste vodka on a turkey (or a chicken) but of course it got me wondering...is this true? Was it some TV BS? Has anyone ever tried this? Just had to ask, cause I've been sitting here pondering it...figured someone here may know. i know it's tv...blah, blah, blah...but you know SOMEONE is going to do it now because they saw it on TV

Everything tastes lovely after I've consumed a large quantity of Vodka, my muscles relax and in the morning I am usually quite tender.
I would think the Turkey would be the same.

eta : Would that be classed as cruelty to animals, feeding them a poison ? I'm sure the Turkey wouldn't care after a couple of shots though.
etaa(again) : This is the second post that's metioned Vodka today - Is there some kind of deal on, like two for the price of one or something?

I think it may just be that tv show - I haven't heard of any great sales on liquor!, but you are right, I myself am much more tender all over after consuming vodka! however...I doubt it's any crueler to feed it to the bird than it is to process it...as long as you do it BEFORE the turkey sobers up!

ETA: letting a turkey have a hangover WOULD be cruel!

This is hilarious!!! I watched that last night and wondered "What the heck?!" I'd never heard of that before. Then I saw this thread and wondered if you'd seen the show too.

Can you imagine a rooster with a hangover....

"Cock-A-.... Oh Man, Can I do this later? Would everyone just wake up quietly and leave me to sleep for a bit and pleeeease stop all that clucking noise"

Well, there are the cows that are given beer... supposedly makes for tender tastey meat... though, that's given throughout the life before slaughter, not just a shot at the end.

Raising a birds BAC... well since I've never sucked my own tippled blood I've no clue if there's a taste... and you do drain birds... not like cows... so not much would be left... have to wonder if the loosey-goosey would still clench when dying... doesn't matter how loose the bird is before death, it's while dying I'm curious about... do they just slip away, no stress... or do you just end up with the same meat, only with a Russian flair?

I'm curious to see if anyone's tried this one...

I thought you were supposed to massage the turkey so the meat would be tender. Much in the same way as the exspensive Kobie beef are. I would have to save the Vodka for me on processing day.

I'm so glad I came to read this thread. I've been eyeing that subject line and trying really hard not to come here JUST to post something silly. Whew!

I AM a vodka drinker, y'see. Wouldn't waste it on a bird I was about to process (as IF) but it's cool to see someone else also watches the Beekman brothers!!
