Just set up an electric wire fence to keep the raccoon away from my flock. Wondering what the effective voltage is while still being safe in case my dogs (25 lb and 45 lb) investigate.
Here is the setup: wooden posts with chicken wire and aviary netting secured to cross pieces. New electric fence is 17g aluminum wire run 5” and 14” off the ground. Charged with a Speedrite 1000 energizer connected to a deep cycle battery charged by a solar panel. Fence tester says 7,000 v but that is the highest reading on the tester. Worried that maybe the thing is too strong?
