WAhhh! PROLAPSE???!! update..blockage!!

Thanks!! I'll try that!

OK...went and put a bit more prep-H and checked inside her again...she was straining so hard it was just awful! Felt lots of the gravely stuff and also very gently pulled out what appears to be a piece of light colored hardish rubbery stuff...along with a bit more of insulation. There was a bit of blood on my glove as well....which scared me. I felt horrible having to do it. I'm scared to death she'll die right there in my hands from shock. Poor girl!! If shes doing this badly tomorrow I may try to find someone to put her to sleep...I'm sure that a vet that doesn't treat chickens would atleast be willing to do that

How do you check thoroughly?? I was in there earlier and all I felt was a wide open empty area that was very fluidy...I felt nothing else.....BUT, it was my first time really checking. As I was in there she was very unhappy and kept frantically pushing.

Let her rest. Try to keep her calm and in a dark place to stop the laying process. she needs to heal from the prolapse. Feed her soft foods like the previous poster stated and make sure she is pooping. Most objects pass easily through the chicken if it can pass through the proventriculus (sp?). If she survives you can try the molasses flush after the prolapse heals.
