No, unfortunately we aint got no berrie bushes at all. I was gonna plant some but i'm sure all they would do is serve treats to the girls

It's just extra brown coloring on a brown egg. The same way that "pink" eggs are light brown & nothing more. I've seen dark spots like the ones pictured and white spots etc. Only perfect eggs make it to the store. In reality all kinds are laid.

Exactly, one of the last stage of an eggs development is the wash. Every girl has her own unique wash. Some have brown spots, some purple, some white, some only have spots at one end etc... Its a nice way of seeing who lays more etc. I like to put my girls eggs in rows in the tray depending on the colour and pattern of their wash.

Also if you clean these eggs you will be surprised to find the spots will clean right off. But then they just look plain and boring.

Oh and I find it's my girls with blue feathering that tend to lay eggs with purple spots the most food for thought... I breed Brahmas, but have had hybrids in the past with varying brown spotted washes...

Dont confuse a wash with a bloom, a bloom is clear, a wash is pigmented and comes before the bloom...

Never heard of this 'wash'.....but it kinda makes sense...do you have any more info on this(like a link to other anecdotes or a scientific study?).

@Nemmi123 Not sure if you noticed this is a very old thread,
but would be glad of learning something new.
