Within an hour of bringing them home from the farm store I had to find some chick-grit-sized bits of coarse sand from my yard because I saw them eating ants off the wall of the coop where I was brooding them. Then they ganged up on a spider and tore it apart.

In the future I will make sure to have grit available from the start -- in tiny quantities so that they don't eat it instead of their food but only in addition to it.
