I have six chickens, two roosters by mistake, and they are 4 1/2 months old. The roosters have started to mate with my girls and so I guess I am just trying to figure out when I will see my first egg. My mind tells me that mating means that the girls will be producing eggs soon but I could be wrong. This is my first time owning chickens. It has been many ups and downs but hopefully I can figure things out. They are very healthy and well cared for I just do not know what to expect in the future so I am hoping this site will give the advice I need. I will take any advice that can be given on eggs, rooster attacks, or things that I may come across in the future. Thanks

I have found that my roosters tend to mature before the hens.

Do you have any eggs yet?

Different breeds tend to lay at different ages.

Some of the really wonderful older breeds might not lay until 6 months to one year.
