My order is IN! Coming June 16. We like to order late since school gets out in June so everyone is home to interact with the chicks daily. One year did a May order and it was NOT as fun as we had so much more to do in the evening and were gone all day.

When is your order coming? What did you order? Where did you order from? We are getting 12 (maybe 13) new chicks. A few fun breeds like Polish & Cochin, and some reliable layers like Australorp and Whitings. Also my first White Leghorn. Ordered w a few friends, so we will have first pick once they get here! Our order is from McMurray but may add a few from Mt Healthy as another friend wants some and McM is out! lol

Please join my support group! With 3 feet of snow on the ground here in NY, I need something to keep me occupied until summer! 😊

I ordered from Meyer as it is the closest hatchery I could find without a minimum on chicks/breed. I got 5 layers; golden cuckoo maran, buckeye, BBS Wyandotte, partridge cochin, and barnevelder. Also got 10 Cornish cross, their free meal maker and homestead helper options. So I’m expecting 17 chicks at the end of March! I’ll be timing my own eggs to hatch a few days before they arrive and likely taking said arrival day off.

I see many cockerels in my future, hopefully they don’t all start crowing at once and I can cut their numbers down quickly. Also hoping to keep one or 2 as replacement/spares. Estimating to have close to 60 birds at one time and hoping to have less than 30 and a freezer full by fall, we’ll see how that goes!

I was getting some supplies at the store and saw 2 stores already had a few chicks, so there’s a good possibility of me finding a couple more breeds I’ve been thinking about at TSC and/or Family Farm. I may very well drive the family crazy with all the chicks I’ll be raising and the messes/smells they make. I’ll just have to remind them every time we eat chicken/eggs where they came from.

Sounds so fun! I’d love to have a rooster someday…my property won’t allow one!

That’s why I’m trying some “fun” breeds. Hubby said 12 more, a few “fun” and the rest practical layers. 😊

This is so real for me this time every year, waiting for new arrivals, I'm impatient, need support. LOL. I only add a few, 3 or 4 every year. It would be so fun to get ALOT, but haha, I do have will power.... I keep around 15 at all times, all different breeds, different color hens, different color eggs. I've had roosters a few times, never did work out peacefully enough, traded them for hens. I try to mostly get purebred, not hybrid as purebred roosters are much easier to trade. But I do roll the dice on a few hybrids so meet my objective of all different egg colors. Last year I added a Olive Egger, Color Pack Layer from Jenks, Speckled Sussex and Lavender Wyandotte. This year I'm impatiently waiting for a Blue Laced Red Wyandotte, Delaware, Blue Copper Marans. NEXT WEEK they'll be here. :celebrate

I started an order from Cackle Hatchery last night. Have not decided whether to add some CornishX. My order is for 7 female Black Ameraucanas (they have the real deal!), 7 female Dominiques (sex identiifiable at hatch!) and one MALE Black Ameraucana. Fifteen is their minimum for no "small-order" fee. That's more chickens than I need but I hope to sell the excess as started pullets. They won't come in until June, though. So I should start getting eggs from them ... oh, about December 2025 - March 2026. Whew, that seems a long way off! 😳

Sounds like great order! You're going to need a lot of support between now and then :lau I love the name of this post, lol... And me too! They had to cancel my order (to feed store,) due to weather. Privett and other companies have been bought out by Hoovers. I'm pretty bummed about that but I'm going to give Hoovers a chance, roll the dice. My new order will come in 4/21. BLR Wyandotte, Golden Laced Wyadotte, Sapphire Olive Egger (giving Hoover's hybrids a chance, first time, nervous,) and Delaware. Ugh I hate waiting!

I’m sorry your original order was canceled! But I’m glad you still are able to get chicks! A few years back, we ended up w some Olive Eggers from Hoovers (via a TSC impulse buy), and they laid great! All laid green, so hopefully yours will also! You’ll have to post pics (hopefully everyone will), once the chicks arrive!

Thank You!! I'm so excited for a new color addition to my carton. I've been using Privett only for 20years so even though it's scary to use another hatchery because I've had the best luck with Privett, it'll be super interesting to have different purebred and hybrid selections. Ugh, the waiting!!

Finally here! What a rough year for chicks this has been. My order/breeds changed 3 times and of course 2 of these are from Hoovers not my tried and true Privett. But i'm very thankful to have gotten anything at all this year. Hopefully next year will be a better year for Chickens in general! My latest addition is officially: Blue Laced Red Wyandotte; Golden Laced Wyandotte; Chocolate Orpington. All doing great under Mommy Hut... :love Keeping them in my house for a few days....

Fantastic! What cuties! Did you split an order with someone? Just curious because 3 is a small number to have shipped!
