Hatching chicks is a great way to learn patience. Incubating is harder though ; keeping the temperature perfectly perfect takes skill.(sometimes) What if a robotic arm could do all the work for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Even though that would kind of be impossible, well its well still possible! But if a robot did the work for you then whats the fun of incubating chicks!?!? ALSO:what if a robot could protect your chicks and chickens 24.7!!! then you wouldn't have nightmares or worries about your chickens dying or being eaten and other things mean foxes do.

I do have a robot do all (most anyway) of the work for me.

It automatically controls the temperature so that it's within a specified range. It turns the eggs every two hours. It could even control the water in the humidity pan if I set it up that way. The only thing it doesn't control is the airflow because the vents are manual, but they don't require much adjustment anyway.

An incubator with an autoturner and thermostat IS a form of robot.

But especially for the first few hatches there is still going to be a lot of anxiety no matter how much of the work is done for you.

Erm... most people in this area of the forum ARE hatching chicks, most likely from the breed they wanted, in fact. I bet a lot of people will even name their chicks... so I'm quite not sure of the point of your 'competition'?

As for the robot, my incubator does everything automatically for me, even the humidity. It stops turning the eggs at 18 days and raises the humidity all on its own. I still have my nose glued to the window, watching for wobbles and listening for peeps.
I'm sure building a secure enclosure would be cheaper than buying a chicken-protector robot

Hi Ella. It is exciting hatching, even after years of doing it. Since I rarely hatch fewer than two dozen eggs and often four or six dozen, I get boys and girls. Usually the get names that come from their own personalities. Like Starbuck, or Runslikenut. Dash for a fast one. Oops for the one who gets stuck or into trouble. Usually it's the keepers with neat personalities who get names.

I have had automatic incubators. I don't like them. I like hands on, even rolling myself. I may not be perfect but it matters to me to be a part of it since I have the time to. If I were hatching for profit, then yeah automatic is where it's at. I get 100 % hatches often enough, but I often use imperfect eggs and take what I get.

Hatching is great fun and yes, most people on this thread are complete addicts.
