Waiting

Is this any inclination at all to the type of mom she's going to be?
Not sure....but I think it's important to be able to handle broody, and her chicks,
sticking your hand under there is a good way to get her used to you and learn you're not going to hurt her.

I'm getting the brooder set up today in case she's not good mama.

We got peeps!!
Mama was softly clucking this morn during chores,
sounded a bit different so thought maybe they have internally pipped.
Sure enough heard peeps this afternoon.
Took a half hearted peek under her, didn't see a chick.
Don't want to probe too deeply yet.
If they are out, they are back farther than I want to look yet.

She let me look, one all dry and bopping around.

Confirmed one hatched!! Still under mom drying and couple more shells are starting to zip. Today is day 20 as well. Pics in the morning. :jumpy

Three so far .. all EE babies, so time will tell. I am pretty sure those are muffs on the little one in the picture. I put her food near her and she's eating and just a yaking at them to come eat.

I didn't even have the courtesy to ask what you were hatching @aart

How many eggs total?
I usually leave feed away from nest until all are hatched,
chicks can live on the yolk in their bellies for a couple days.
...and as long as she's been eating and drinking well she can go a day or two also.

Last egg was pipped when I checked about 7:30,
so am leaving her alone,
other chicks must behind her as I heard but didn't see them.
I put her right back down when I saw that pip!

Eggs are BCM x CCL...so sexlinked OE's
Black Copper Marans cock over Crested Cream Legbar hen makes Olive Egg layers.
Solid cock over barred hen makes chicks gender apparent at hatch,
white spot on heads are males.
I am really really hoping this last chick is a female. :fl
Will put more of this cross in the incubator in a couple weeks.
