That's not a WalMart problem though. It's a police/neighborhood problem.
There are 4 WM's within a reasonable distance from us, and only the one in the "hood" has a crime problem. That particular store closes at 9pm, all the rest are open 24hours.
Decent people, like my parents, drive a slightly further distance to go to the store in the better neighborhood.

I'm sorry ozark hen, I didn't realize I had started an argument? I was just trying to show the other side to Wal-Mart.

The thing that got me today was one of the home office employees came in crying. I asked her what was wrong and she said that when she went to work, her badge no longer worked and she was told she was fired. She received a call not 10 minutes after from her friend telling her that she was also laid off. It just hit really hard when you see it first hand.

Again, I'm sorry ozark if I created an argument. It was not my intention.

WalMart has done a ton of restructuring in their stores with all positions so in honesty, I am glad to see that they 'played fair' and trimmed the fat at the top also.

Dh used to be a co-manager at WM but when he was forced to move to the night shift and work 4 days on (7pm-8am) and 4 days off, he was unable to cope and had to take a LOA. He suffers from migraines and the stress of working nights and trying to sleep days when he already has a sleep disorder was too much and he nearly ended up in the hospital. Sorry for the digression...

Anyways, back to the topic... I think that WM is attempting to make sound decisions with its workforce in order to keep as many folks as it can employed and still offer the public the low prices that we need in this economy.

As cruddy as WM can seem to some, there are even more folks who depend on them for jobs and for those prices.

We didn't have the problem in our neighborhood until after the Wal-mart was built.

Go figure.

Just another perspective...

Is this the fault of retailers or the fault of the govt who taxes US made items and the companies who make them, so highly that 'we' are forced to go outside of the borders to get goods that folks here can afford?

I am certainly loyal to the United States however, I am also loyal to my wallet and hate having to choose one over the other.

Wal-mart carries a lot of stuff made in the USA, you just have to look for it... and buy it.

I prefer to shop at stores like Walmart. The Customer service is much better than at "Mom and Pop" stores that have the attitude that this is my business and I can do what ever I like. There are policies that are pretty much etched in stone, and if you feel you are mistreated in any way you can state your case to the next higher management person until your problem is rectified and you recieve satisfaction.
I also know that it may hurt small business (local business) but Walmart can carry a much larger variety of items at a lower cost and this is something that is necessary for lots of people that have financial issues. I guess I'm saying that if a "Mom and Pop" business closes It is sad....... but if a Walmart closes it is a catastrophe.

I love my $35.00 Microwave................

I work for WM. Sometimes I really hate my job, but in reality it isn't so bad. I get a yearly raise, insurance is not the greatest but atleast I have it, also a 10% discount. 10% covers the taxes

Did you know that WM will price match? Bring in the ad from another store and get the same product for the same price as the other store. You won't have to drive all over town for those items on sale. Here is more help for everyone. Do you have something that rings up for more than the price tag says? Go ahead an let them charge you more. Finish paying, then go straight to customer service and show them the mistake. Tell them you would like an extra $3.00 dollars off. It is WM policy to do that. You just have to ask if they still to that. Yes the do, but only if you ask. WM just doesn't anounce it to everyone. Right now I am thankful for having a job. I don't make a lot of money but atleast I have a job.
