Hi i have just aquired my first 2 chickens, how long should i keep the in the coop/run before i let the out into the garden (i would like them to be free range as much as possible)after i bring them home. also will they naturally return to the coop at night?

How old are they? Is your yard fenced?

18 weeks, wings clipped fences approx 6ft.

I think you need to keep them in for about a week so that they learn where home is. Congrats on your new chickens.

Thanks for that info, I let them out on 25th and they haven't wandered off into next doors garden and have been returning to the coop at about 7:45PM for the last 2 evenings.
