I bought a truck load of the giant sized pumpkins. The chickens, geese, ducks, turkeys, pigs and goats are eating themselves silly. The sheep licked them and walked away. LOL

I split the pumpkins and use them like a big bowl with some feed and treats in the hollow.

Bet your critters are loving you right now Miss Prissy!
My chooks don't like pumpkin. They love the seeds, but leave the innards and shell.

Our walmart had the big jack-o-latern sized pumpkins for 50 cents a piece yesterday, but I didn't bother to get any just for the seeds. I found I can buy them a big bag of unsalted dried pumpkin seeds for $1.89 and not have to figure out what to do with all the leftovers.

Awwwwwwwwww
I've just been informed that Atwoods is fixing to open a store in the town closest to us, 14 miles away. That means no more having to drive 50 miles to my favorite store! Atwoods is like a walmart for country girls. Everything you need for living on a farm and baby poultry half the year too!

My chickens are picky. I have pumpkins all over and my chicks free range. They don't touch them I stopped at a roadside veggie stand on friday and the dozen or so pumpkins that she had lined up were hollow and each was carved with a beautiful chick peck masterpiece. It made me smile. I didn't even need to ask what happened.

I have lots of fallen apples and my chirpers go nuts for them. Although, I wish I could fashion a tiny hard hat for them.
CHICKEN LITTLE! the sky is falling!

Mine all love pumpkin and squashes. I've given them a few now- and earlier in the season too. They go nuts and eat everything but the hard outer shell. I think I'll grow a LOT next year, big pumpkins and hubbard squashes so I'll have plenty over the winter for them. They really enjoy them. Well-- they enjoyed anything I pulled out of the garden for them- and especially loved when I pulled up the tomatoe plants for the compost pile, since they got the leftover tomatoes before I tossed the plants!
