Many heritage (purebred) breeds of chicken tolerate the heat well, since they have been around forever and have adapted to their environment. What else are you looking for in your chickens? ie. egg colour, egg laying ability, size, colour, free range...

I just want chickens that are safe and alivešŸ˜. A bonus would be that they are friendly with animals and people and not broody. They will definitely be confined but the plan is for a 12 x 20 enclosure with only half a dozen chickens. I find so much conflicting information that my list is forever changing. I would love a Naked Neck but have seen conflicting info as to whether they do well in heat. Keep in mind when is say heat, the temps can be 115 to 120 thru the hottest months of summer so the most heat tolerant breeds would have the best chance of success. I do plan on having a the coop with ac.

Breed like leghorns lay LOTS of eggs and do super well in heat.
However, donā€™t do breeds like Orpingtons because....that would go well, to say the least.

Hi, I'm here in Arizona, a few miles south of Phoenix, and we get those types of temperatures too in the summer. I do have Naked Neck's and they have been doing well in it, as long as you have some shade and plenty of clean daily water pan's out for them to drink and to step into. The Naked Neck hen's also like to pick that time to go broody. I had 5 broodies this past summer that I had to break from it, and 3 of those were the Naked Neck's. The other 2 broodies were Barnevelder's. I prefer to hatch out any chick's in my incubator and brood them myself so I'm able to keep a better eye on them as they are starting out life. I also do not free-range mine because I don't want them to become a predator's dinner.
