Want some info on quail

My husband thinks I've lost my mind..LOL He says "WHY do you always hanker to hatch during the winter"? LOL

Well........so I'm interested in learning about quail. I cant determine what variety I like, there's so much conflicting information when I google. What I'm wanting are the pretty painted colors that I've seen - the vibrant blue color, tuxedo, white......rose? I dont care for the brown quail colors.

Can someone help me figure out what it is I'm looking for? And, if anyone has these eggs let me know too! Thanks!

Those are painted quail, I think they're buttons, which a lot of people on here have, but at this time of year shipping eggs can be difficult because of the cold. A lot of times the eggs freeze in transit. You'll probably have to find someone with eggs that you can pick up yourself.

Thanks Heather......I always prefer to pick up eggs rather than shipping - no matter what kind of fowl they are. Just easier that way.

Are they hard to hatch? What are the specifics on incubation? Temp/humidity....how many days until they hatch? 16 right? Thanks!!

Yeah the pretty colored ones are the button quail, aka painted button quail. These are only just for pets though. They get about the size of a parakeet.
If you want some quail to get eggs or meat from though, there are some white coturnix quail, aka Texas A&M. There are also gambel quail, and valley quail, that get blues on them. Plus there are tuxedo coturnix that are brown with white breast feathers. There are also golden coturnix that are brown, but have a very pretty gold coloring to them.

Button quail take about 15-16 days to hatch, and coturnix take about 16-18 days. Not sure about gambels or valleys.

A 'good' quail hatch is anything more than 50%. They are very hard to hatch, and even worse if they are shipped eggs. You would be better off getting some birds first, then hatching the eggs from them.
