Hi All: New here and want to be a Chicken Mommy. Looking to move to Farmingdale NJ, or Howell NJ, or Freehold NJ. how can I know for sure that I can have my backyard chickens?

Check the local zoning ordinances for the specific neighborhood where you want to live. Some towns have rural areas that allow livestock (or at least chickens) while a few miles away they are not allowed.

When moving to another area, try asking the realtor if the home or property you are looking at has any restrictions and what they are (specifically). You can also ask them if in that area whether or not chickens are allowed. This helped us the most when we moved from Texas to Arkansas a few years ago and wanted no restrictions.

Always contact the governing body in the town you want to know information about. And ask for a copy of the ordinance.

Definitely check with the governing body of the towns you are interested in, rules and laws can vary a lot from one area to another.
