I have been looking for plain ole lye for over a year now so I can make my own soap. I can buy mass quantities of it online but really, I don't want to keep THAT much on hand since it takes only a little for each batch. I have looked at all the drain opened products and can't seem to find any that is JUST lye.

Is there anyone out there that can help me out???

look for the tread 'home made soap makers help'.
I think lye was removed from shelves with 9-11.
but we got our 'strike any where' matches back, so maybe some stores somewhere are starting to sell it.

TSC also sells it in the plumbing section..that's where I buy it when I mess up and run out of my big bag before reordering

It has always been sold-just need to know what your looking for..it's seldom called lye on the label

Thanks for all the advice ya'll. I will give our local Ace a go and if they don't have it I'll check Home Depot and/or TSC. Crossing my fingers to find some.
