Want to know what people think of heated plastic waterers (3gallon)

Quote:
Your not alone, handle broke on first fill!! Handle is terrible! I removed it ASAP knowing it wouldn't hold the weight after first spill of 3 gallons of water.

I just bought the same one today- Farm Innovator. I have doused myself 6 times and still did not get it right. I seem to have it locked firmly into place and go to flip if over and ... water everywhere. I am really frustrated. I am worried it will collapse on my birds. I am going to try it one more time before I open the coop in the morning.l The top seems to be made of too flimsy a plastic.

I have 2 and love them. A little tricky to master inverting them plus I found that hanging them works much better. I also recommend bringing the extention cord up to the hanging rope and securing with a zip tie keep the birds from trying to roost on the cord and unplugging it.

I use the base of the I think it is a 5 gallon but that is heavy to carry. i fill up my regular 1 gallon and plac eit on top of the heated base. That works also. ErinM

I have had the same problems flipping the monster over after filling it. I managed ro dump six gallons of water on before getting t right the third time yesterday! (-10 here, so I froze up fast following that idiotic adventure.) Mine has the rubber plug in the bottom, which fills easily with the addition of a large funnel. I agree that there are flaws in the design (handle, not so good) but the overall product is infinitely better than the open-top heated dog bowl that I had been using. That one became a sparrow-spa quickly.

My solution to the spilling problem is just to fill it with two gallons, not to the three gallon capacity. That seems to have solved it for me.
