I have seen 10 different recipies for scratch with 15 different items.
Tell me the best ones that work, because some of them have really strange items in them. Sherri:D

I would try the managing your flock thread for better information.
I am sorry I don't know the answer but someone else will.

This is just my opinion, but I don't think there is a "best" way to make scratch. That's why there are so many different recipes. Basically, it's a treat for you birds, so if they like it then it's good. Just put in it what they like, and don't feed excessive amounts if the ingredients don't have much nutritional value.

I use just cracked corn & wheat. The only other grain readily available here is oats & I've never had chickens that ate oats.
I also use some Black Oil Sunflower seeds sometimes-they seem to improve feather quality & sheen.

Most scratch grain is just cracked corn whole wheat and whole oats. The mix that I use is 50 lbs cracked corn 30 lbs whole wheat 10 lbs black oiled sunflower seeds and 10 lbs oat groats ( the inside of the oats they have no halls on them ). Most feed mills will have or can get all the grains to make this mix.
