Want to start breeding...need a book!

Our children want to start breeding chickens. We have a set of Rose combs plus a hen, a set of silkies, and a set of barred Cochins.

We are absolutely clueless on how to breed these and still have genetic diversity.

So. Are there any books out there that are easy to understand for myself and children?

I forgot to mention we have a rooster silky and two silkies that are mother and daughter that are both hens.
