I hatched a little clutch of eggs recently. I ended up losing 3 of the 6 to various reasons. The other 3 i have two i know the parentage of. They are out of my barred rock hen and 1 is by thr wyandotte(the baby has a rose comb and he is the only one with it) and the other can be any ones guess but the chick is solid black.
The 3rd chick i have questions about. Im pretty sure it is by my wyandotte male but at the time i had 4 roos. I know the hen, she is a golden comet and the only one that lays almost chocolate colored eggs. But i know the overlay of white can effect barring on the barred rock. So, which roo do you think it could be? The silver wyandotte or the barred rock?
Chick in question:

Its mother

Possible fathers i dont have any recent of the barred rock. He was aggressive with the hens and people. He currently resides in the freezer.

Thanks for looking and this is just for fun. I dont really care more of a curiousity.

The other two roosters are not added to the poll because they are very red based. One was a RIR (who was also culled) and the other is a golden comet (Red w/ white tail)

I'm going to guess it's the silver laced Wyandotte based on pattern but I'm also going to mention that I'm not sure your barred rock is actually a barred rock. He looks like a black sex link to me. Im not sure where you're located and I believe in the UK they accept single barred males because of how they breed them but here in the states he would not be considered a barred Plymouth Rock as he only has a single barring gene.

Your “Barred Rock” is the father of the third chick and is actually a Black Sex Link cockerel evidenced by the inconsistency in his barring. If the Silver Laced Wyandotte was the father the chick would have a rose comb, and since the chick has a single comb that means the Black Sex Link is the father.
Not if the Wyandotte is only heterozygous for comb

Wyandotte father. He is probably heterozygous for single comb. I couldn’t imagine anything else producing a pattern like that.

That’s true, but there’s no way to know for sure without a controlled test.
The silver wyandottes father was a red wyandotte and had a single comb but his mother is a rose comb.

The "barred rock" is out of a hen that looks similar to him and was supposed to be a cuckoo maran but i seriously doubt she is. Eggs are a pale pink.
It would make him a black sex link.
