I have a flock of production reds, barred rocks, and EE

None but ONE hardworking gal will brood. Does anyone know what breed has a greater tendency to brood? Im sick of incubating my own chicks!!!

Buff Orphingtons!!

They are relentless in their broodiness!!

For me - bantam Cochins have been awesome - even hatchery girls. Both of my LF Cochins have gone broody also, but not with the drive that my bantams have.

Another who has done well for me is the Rosecombs - a true Bantam breed, they have no large fowl "partner".

My heritage Orpingtons also go broody, but again the bantam cochins out perform.

Kraeinkoppes and games were not even mentioned and are very broody breeds. Breeds like Orps and Cochins may produce a broody or may not. I've had 3 buff orps and 3 black australorps and not a broody among them. My current broody is a mutt.

This is a great article for anyone who wants to use broodies, anyway.
