I've wanted this breed too. A few years ago McMurray had them included in their catalog, but I didn't order them that year. The next year when I went to place my order they were GONE

McMurray said they were now carrying Delawares in their place. But I would still rather have the Columbian Rocks. Rocks are good-tempered reliable layers, and the Columbians have a classic good look, like a Merrie Melody cartoon chicken.

Hello, anyone? Who has Columbian Rocks here? Who knows why they're so scarce?

Columbian Rocks are nice birds but not at $4 each from the hatchery. If you want some there are a couple of breeders on the Plymouth Rock group forum that might be able to help you out.

Dunlap hatchery here in Idaho has them. I got one by mistake and we love the darn guy. I sell older pulletts and laying hens for 15-40.00 each and could have sold him for the same price to every single customer that has come this spring. he is probably not "show quality" but he's big, flashy and even tempered.

My kids were watching an old Tom & Jerry cartoon today, an episode where they were in a barnyard and Jerry the mouse was hiding under a big fierce Mama hen. The hen was white with a black head & tail -- a Columbian Rock!
