I wish there was a rooster thief in the neighborhood. We have a rooster and 6 hens and I am going out of my mind with the daily chickie dramas.

Everytime one of the girls goes to lay a egg my rooster does nothing but crow until they return to him. It's like he can't bare for them to be out of his site for a second. When one of them does lay a egg she will sit in the coop and bawk and bawk while my rooster repeats the bawking. I have to go out there and put a stop to it by taking away the newly laid egg. I realise the girls are calling for me to come get mommas egg. But I don't see why Frodo has to be so noisy about it.

But seriously, I wish someone would just slip in here in the middle of the night and steal my husbands little rooster boy.
Roosters dont crow much at night so my husband doesnt think its much of a problem. But he's not here during the day to see how nerve racking it can be.

Even though he's here on the weekends...he still doesnt seem to mind all the ruckus. He's the best chickie Daddy there is. Spends all his time with the girls and loves them all like crazy.

So theres no sense in trying to convince him that the rooster has to go. Believe me...I tried.

So if you know of anyone who loves roosters and wishes they could have one . If they can be very quiet and quick so my husband wont realise it's happening. And can keep a secret.

Well I am sure of my 15 chicks I'm going to get quite a few roos, so I don't think I need another, but thanks! LOL. At least your roo will protect your girls.

lol! Well, right now out of 29 birds, I have 19 roos so I need to get started on sending them to fridge camp before the laying/mating hormones get going. If one roo is driving you that mad, I don't even want to think of 19 roos, lol

Aw, Music to your, oh , I mean my ears ! I love to hear all that chatter & crowing. Some times I even go out just to entice my roo ! I have recorded him on my cell phone, and sometimes you should see him when I play it back to him. He will go crazy. Then he has to crow back even louder than normal. Its the funniest thing. Like I said I love it !

What is the problem? That rooster is doing a good job. I wish mine was half that attentive. He tends to just ditch his hens and they mostly ignore him because the few times he has told them to do something he was wrong. Like trying to say there was good food in a the clean shavings in the back of the coop while the banty rooster told them to go out and free range for food. Or the time he ran for the chicken coop and left them to be mauled by a dog while the banty rooster (RIP dameru

) stood up to the dog and got all the hens following him safely back to the coop. My standard rooster really sucks at this.

I'll trade you.

I love all the sounds and the crowing. I doubt I'll ever be without a rooster again. It's music to my ears, though my DH doesn't care for the 4 a.m. crowing and jumps out of bed to turn down the baby monitors (plural, one in each of the two largest coops).

My roo can make all the noise he wants. He does a good job of taking care of the hens and yes he praises them for laying eggs by joining in their singing.
I'm also guilty of playing roosters crowing on my cell phone just to get him crowing. I threaten him with a fry pan daily, but I love my roo.
