Hello. I am new to BYC and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Angela. I live in NJ and run a Bunny Rescue. I currently have about 70 fur babies. I started rescuing about 2 yrs ago and I can't seem to ever turn a bun in need away. It it currently super expensive to take every sick bun to the vet so I have learned everything from bottle feeding an overwhelmed new mothers babies with a alarmingly high success rate to lancing a bacterial abscess. I like to think I know a lot about bunnies but I have been proven wrong so many times.
But I do my very best. I actually joined to ask a question and please don't get mad or upset if I am doing something wrong because I'm here to learn what is the best for my babies. So currently I have my one Pertacus (Pert) who has a tiny tiny scratch on his nose. It became super infected and his whole face is swollen with an abscess on the left side of his chin. It's not an abscess with pus just inflammation. He is still eating but very lethargic and it's quite scary. I have been giving him Tramadol for the inflammation ( the vet said it was safe) I have also been giving him fresh garlic and making him grewl. I have cephalexin capsules at 500 mg. I opened it up and measured out 15 mg and gave it in injection under his skin. Today he is walking around more but really looks like crap. So can anyone please tell me that I can definitely mix the powder with purified water and give it that way? I read yes but I can't find a definitive answer. Yesterday it was to the point of trying or him dying anyway. He is my guy and I can not give up. Also any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. I'm excited to be apart of the BYC family
