Our new chicks, two Easter Eggers and two Black Australorps! Just got them today!

While the Barred Rocks were sexed as pullets I still have my doubts about this one!

Three of our four Barred Rock chicks and our four RIR Bantams (three weeks old).

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Aww....how adorable!!

Nothing cuter than baby chicks!!

If you have any questions about them along the way, feel free to ask around the forums.

Enjoy your new babies and welcome to our flock!

My main concern is when and how to integrate the new baby chicks with the older ones. I set up a second small brooder for the newbies for now. The older chicks are very interested in what's going next door!

You can mix chicks of different ages up till about 2 to 3 weeks of age. After this time they don't accept each other as well. The pecking order starts to form sometime around the 2nd or 3rd week. After that you will need to integrate them slowly over a few weeks time from behind wire. Everybody sees, nobody touches. After several weeks of living side by side, you can mix them together a bit easier. Always add more feeding and watering stations when mixing and always intervene if things turn bloody.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join to our flock. Black Australorps are my favorite standard breed. I've raised them for years (along with dozens of other breeds), and they are extremely hardy, calm and gentle (my children and granddaughter made lap pets of them), and the best layers of the standard, brown egg laying breeds. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your chicks.
