I have been lurking around the site since January while I was building my coop. And wanted to join and say thank you! I spent so many endless hours every night reading up here and researching and learning so much. My coop is practically done now and designed so much better because of all of you and your knowledge. I will get pics posted soon.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
this is my second time owning chickens. 20 years ago I had a coop with 10 chickens in Arizona.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
8
(3) What breeds do you have?
We have three sapphire gems that started laying about 2 weeks ago: we got them beginning of feb. we also picked up 3 lavender ameraucaunas which have all turned out to be Roos. The breeder had a roo exchange so we traded them out to try again as we aren’t zoned for Roos.
and then somehow we picked up a buff Orpington and Easter egger In March.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
We love having chickens. They are really more pets for us. They all have names and everyone that has seen them and their coop tell me how these are spoiled chickens. Lol.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
gardening, construction,building,remodeling, I’m pretty much a creative and love all creative things.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We are in nw Florida. And live in a county island, so we get to have chickens on our 1/3 acre. We were so excited to find this out during our home purchase.
the hubs and I, and 2 kids that are now young adults, we also Have a pack of small dogs.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I think it was a Pinterest search. When I was researching coop builds.
